What is a community group?
It’s a lifestyle of discipleship
Community Groups are the primary vehicle for discipleship at Kineo. We gather in community groups with our friends and neighbors to live life together, experience the gospel, wrestle with the truths of the Bible, love one another, serve the city, and participate in the mission of God with Kineo.

Why do we have community groups?
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers…and the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:42, 47b)
To stay in line with our vision as a church which is to: “Love God, Love People, and Make Disciples”, we believe that one of the best ways fulfill this vision is by creating intentional, intimate relationships with people in a family context for the sake of advancing the gospel of Jesus Christ in our surrounding communities.
The Bible teaches a great deal about the nature and extent of Christian community. Community is a gift from God and it is essential for our growth as individuals and our growth as a church. As we see in the book of Acts, the early church devoted themselves to living life together as a family, and through that, evangelism happened. In the New Testament alone there are 58 statements of how Christians should interact with one another in community. We are to “love one another”, “encourage one another”, “bear one another’s burdens”, “admonish one another”, and “not forsake meeting together”. There is also a lot of talk of being a family in the Bible. In the beginning, God created man and said that it is not good for him to be alone, but this wasn’t limited to him needing a wife. Underneath it all, God is saying that He created man to be in a family type relationship with one another in the same way that He desires for us to be a part of His family.
There is no way that a church can adequately care for its people or operate as a family at the level prescribed in scripture, unless it breaks itself down into smaller families. There is also no example in scripture where Jesus discipled people in a classroom setting or strictly one-on-one. Jesus made disciples by living in community with people as He went about His life. The phrase “Go therefore” found in the Great Commission means “as you live your life”, make disciples. So this is our model and mission for community groups at Kineo Church.

Community Group Rythms
Our philosophy of ministry at Kineo revolves around worship, community and mission. So all community groups will have that same general philosophy. But at a deeper level, we believe that these rhythms are essential to every group. When music is out of rhythm, it sounds terrible. We believe the same to be true in life, as we were created to be in rhythm with God. Here are 8 rhythms that you can expect to take place at any given time at one of our community groups. We believe that our life together should include these rhythms so that God would be glorified in our lives and that others will see the beauty and worth of Christ Jesus.
Worship
We all worship something. The problem is, if we are not worshiping God, we are worshiping idols (things we love more than God). The ultimate desire God has for us, is that we know Him and worship Him forever. All of the other essentials should flow out of our worship of God and the joy we find in Him alone. Everything that God created speaks of Him and His character. Creation worships God, so should we.
Story
Knowing someone’s story is so important. We all cast judgment and have preconceived ideas about who people are, why they do certain things, etc…and this is damaging in relationships. In your community group you will share your story so people can know and love you better. You will also take the time to hear other story’s from the people in your community.
Eat
If eating is absolutely essential to life, then it must be absolutely essential to your community group. In the Ancient Near Eastern culture (Bible times!),the evening meal was the time when all family members normally were gathered together, and was an important time of fellowship. We believe this to be true today. Some of the best conversations we get into are over a great meal with good company.
Celebrate
Celebration is so important in a day and age where everything is so fast paced and geared to conquer, then move on. It would be a crazy sight to see a baseball team win the World Series and just walk off the field like nothing happened. The same is true for those who have been made new in Christ. As believers, we have so much to be thankful for and every reason to celebrate each others lives.
Recreate
The idea behind recreate, is just to have fun together. As the body of Christ, we believe we should know how to have fun and how teach others how to have fun as well. This will take shape in many different ways within your community, but it is a must!
Bless
To bless someone is to change the course of someone’s day, maybe life. Think back at the times you’ve been blessed by someone, and you will remember the impact it had on your life. We want to be a people who bless others through sharing Christ with them, serving them, praying for them, encouraging them, etc…
Invest
Investment might be one of the most important essentials. If you are not willing to invest your time and resources for those in your community group, then it’s highly unlikely that you will invest your time and resources for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. We desire to be a people are willing to lay our lives down for our brothers and sisters and for the sake of Christ.
Learn
Learning about God and His plan of salvation for His people from Genesis to Revelation is the essential of what we want every person in a community group to learn. We will never be able to share the Gospel of Jesus with someone if we ourselves do not know the big picture of what God is up to. From there, learning can and will go deeper in many other areas of God’s Word.
